About SGPA and CGPA

SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average): SGPA is the average of grade points obtained in all the subjects in a semester.

CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average): CGPA is the weighted average of the grade points obtained in all the semesters completed by a student.

Importance: CGPA provides a comprehensive overview of a student's academic performance across multiple semesters, making it a valuable metric for academic evaluation and career opportunities.

TheSGPA to CGPA Converter is an intuitive tool that calculates Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) from Semester Grade Point Averages (SGPAs). Users can add multiple semesters, input SGPA (0–10) and credits (for weighted calculations), and choose betweenSimple Average (equal credits) orWeighted Average (custom credits).

Conversion Process

  • Select Calculation Method:
    • Choose via radio buttons:
      • Simple Average: Assumes equal credits per semester (CGPA = Sum(SGPA) / Number of Semesters).
      • Weighted Average: Uses custom credits (CGPA = Sum(SGPA × Credits) / Sum(Credits)).
    • Default: Simple Average.
  • Add Semesters:
    • Start with two semester rows; click “Add Semester” for more.
    • Each row includes:
      • SGPA input (0–10, decimals allowed, e.g., 8.75).
      • Credits input (visible in Weighted mode, minimum 1, default 20).
      • Remove button (for semesters > 2).
  • Input Data:
    • Enter SGPA for each semester (e.g., Semester 1: 8.75, Semester 2: 9.00).
    • For Weighted Average, enter credits (e.g., 20, 18).
    • Rows animate on addition with fade-in effect.
  • Validate Inputs:
    • SGPA: Must be 0–10 (numeric, decimals allowed).
    • Credits (Weighted mode): Must be >0 (integer).
    • At least one valid semester required.
  • Calculate:
    • Click “Calculate CGPA.”
    • For Simple Average:
      • Sum SGPAs and divide by number of valid semesters.
      • Example: SGPAs [8.75, 9.00] → (8.75 + 9.00) / 2 = 8.875.
    • For Weighted Average:
      • Compute: Sum(SGPA × Credits) / Sum(Credits).
      • Example: SGPA [8.75, 9.00], Credits [20, 18] → (8.75 × 20 + 9.00 × 18) / (20 + 18) = (175 + 162) / 38 ≈ 8.868.
    • Convert to percentage: CGPA × 9.5 (e.g., 8.875 × 9.5 = 84.3125%).
